Speaker Independence

Speaker independence is usually difficult to achieve because a system's parameters become tuned to the speakers that it was designed with, and these parameters tend to be highly speaker specific. On the other hand, many standardized speech databases have been provided by Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute (ATR) in Japan. The availability of speech databases has enabled researchers to run many large scale experiments in speaker-independent recognition.
