230Cs-specific notes for configuration of Linux system
It's not difficult to install Linux on 230Cs, like other contemporary
notePCs. Various distributions such as Slackware, RedHat LINUX,
debian may work.
I use Slackware, because selecting each softwares
manually to be installed or not is needed for constructing a minimum
system comfortable for such a low-spec machines.
For building Japanese environment, see PJE (Project Japanese
Environment) distribution add-ons.
Here I will wrote some 230Cs-specific notes for configuring Linux system.
Kernel Configuration
- To enable the mouse device (TrackPointII), configure it as a PS/2 mouse.
Mouse support (not serial mice) [Y]
PS/2 mouse (aka "auxiliary device") support [Y]
- APM BIOS settings:
Advanced Power Management BIOS support [Y]
Enable PM at boot time [Y]
Make CPU Idle calls when idle [Y]
Power off on shutdown [N]
- The internal sound device is not supported, so far as I know.
Sound card support [N]
Key Layout configuration
I always use ASCII-layout (Sun-5) keyboard in my laboratory, so the
Japanese keymap is only a pain.
So I made a ascii psuedo-compatible
keymap file for 230Cs. To use this, put the file
in keytables directory ("/usr/lib/kbd/keytables" in Slackware) and do:
% loadkeys defkeymap tp230-ascii-d.map
in /etc/rc.d/rc.local or so.
The top right keys will be remapped like this:
return
