The same rhythm pattern words are found by our defined templates based
on the manner of articulation, and then the means ( ) and standard
deviations (
) are calculated for the ratio of each mora to the
word. A proper rhythm ratio range for each template is set as
.
We have classified consonants into eight categories (VP, VF, NA, AP,
TF, UP, UF, AF) according to the manner of articulation as described
in Table 5.1. For vowels and Tokushuhaku, they are
used individually without any categorization. Therefore, each
consonant has its category name when being changed into a template
name, e.g., the transcription [shakai] has the template
name ``UFaUPai''. Four rhythm patterns for three mora words are
enumerated in Figure 5.11. Most standard deviation
shows very stable range.
