1.2.2 Multi-Media

Multi-media (MM) technology need to be combined to make a potentially very effective training system. From the perspective of improving our CALL system, MM is exciting and important because it offers the potential of more engaging and productive interaction with computers[12]. A number of studies have also demonstrated that learners learn more effectively with MM educational systems than with uni-media systems[13].

In addition, graphical user interface (GUI) using windows, icons, mouse, this kind of interface can make a wide range of learning tasks much easier to manipulate and perform, particularly for computer beginners, and lead to the widespread of a CAPL system. Digitized full-motion video and sound, which can be displayed in real time on a personal computer (PC), are used to preview the scenario of an on-line textbook. Meanwhile, a microphone and a speaker connected to a sound-card allow the learners to record or replay their speech at will.
